We the undersigned petition the council to ask the District Council to explain or reverse the policy of boarding up covered spaces under which homeless people seek refuge at night (DCC are hosting the Petition)

Keeping out of the rain, especially during the bitterly cold nights of winter, is an essential part of keeping exposure at bay. The unfortunate homeless of Exmouth have seen these essential covered spaces boarded up just before the Christmas season as the nights were beginning to turn very cold.

The homeless I've regularly seen and talked to there have never been an issue, always approachable and friendly and appreciative of hot drinks, snacks or additional blankets.

The denial of essential shelter at any time of year (let alone Christmas) is any ugly attempt to shift the problem, not deal with it. The fact that is happened just before Christmas is abhorrent, denying shelter to those in need.
