ePetition details

We the undersigned petition the council to DCC Board Members of CDS to please convince the Board to de-scope from Airband its proposed new fibre network to Northleigh. CDS must release our village from the Airband contract so we can resume funding under the Gigabit Voucher Scheme, then re-mobilise Openreach to complete work as soon as possible.

After six years and two collapsed contracts, CDS has connected 30 properties in Northleigh’s surrounds, installed by Openreach under the GVS scheme. But 91 properties remain unconnected. CDS has awarded a new contract to Airband, blocking GVS funding of about £115,000 for Openreach to finish its work. Airband would install new, unnecessary fibre, paralleling the new existing 12 km of fibre, with a further delay of three years, i.e. a waste of both taxpayers’ money and time.
The obvious technical, economic, and low-risk solution is for Openreach to complete its network. The cost of connecting just 91 property owners with maybe 12 km of cable will distract Airband from more productive work elsewhere in its scope.
