We the undersigned petition the council to A request for freedom of information on actual cost of the scheme. Think about the future of electric cars, how will they be charged up now for those who cannot gain access to the rear of their properties on Sweetbrier Lane? Remove the new cycle lane as it is not thought through and it is incorrectly measured, it is causing a traffic build up, revving engines and emergency vehicles are not able to pass or park for residents - It is unsafe for all. Consider a residents parking scheme instead. Paint a white line for cycles on the pavement which was extended by the council around 10 years ago for a cycle lane and not finished, perhaps extend the pavement further (another half a metre) Install chicanes and road humps for a traffic calming scheme and a flashing sign stating 20mph when vehicles drive past faster than the limit.

Due to new cycle lane in Sweetbrier Lane there is :
Increased hazards – risk of cycles involved in accidents with traffic emerging to and from Sycamore Close.

Risk of pedestrians (when crossing Sweetbrier Lane) tripping on plastic which divides vehicles and cycles

Risk of vehicles parking on white line and opening car doors and hitting a cyclist.

Risk of vehicles being damaged & parking on opposite side of cycle lane on pavement and on road which is now too narrow.
Risk of emergency vehicles not reaching public such as Ambulance, Fire, Police etc.

Risk of vehicles hitting bollards in dark – streetlights are switched off at 2am.
Increased parking issues in the area and roads nearby.

Perception crossing the road across the cycle lane is increased as risky and more difficult for elderly and disabled especially blind and partially sighted people.

Mistakes made during the planning and installation – such as incorrect measurements and contractors working until 11pm without consulting the public.

Impacts – possible decrease of value on properties adjacent to cycle lane, no parking for residents and visitors – visitors and deliveries may well decide not to deliver to properties considering the risks involved.

Healthcare workers visiting patients in residential properties are at risk parking and crossing.
