Dorset and East Devon Coast World Heritage Site Partnership Plan Development and Public Consultation pdf icon PDF 131 KB

Joint Report of the Jurassic Coast Trust and the Head of Planning, Transportation and Environment (PTE/19/28), attached, plus presentation.

Minutes:

The Committee considered the Joint Report of the Jurassic Coast Trust and the Council’s Head of Planning, Transportation and Environment (PTE/19/28), presented by the Council’s Natural Environment Officer and Mr J Wokersien from the Jurassic Coast Trust.

The East Devon Coast between Orcombe Point and Lyme Regis formed part of the Dorset and East Devon Coast World Heritage Site (WHS), otherwise known as ‘The Jurassic Coast’,

information for which could be found at: https://jurassiccoast.org/.

The site management plan was updated every six years and demonstrated to UNESCO that the globally significant site was being managed in a way that met the UK Government’s obligations to the World Heritage Convention.  Responsibility for the management of the Dorset and East Devon Coast WHS was devolved to Dorset and Devon County Councils.  The management plan will be presented as a ‘Partnership Plan’.

Since July 2017, the Jurassic Coast Trust, a registered charity, had been in receipt of a grant from both Councils to take responsibility for maintaining the partnership of stakeholders along the 95-mile site and involved them in the creation and implementation of the WHS Partnership Plan.

The Report outlined the process being undertaken by the Jurassic Coast Trust to develop the Partnership Plan and sought approval for the approach to its public consultation.  The public consultation was planned to take place during August and September and Local Authorities would then be asked to adopt the final Partnership Plan in late 2019/early 2020.

Members welcomed the promotion of the Jurassic Coast in Devon.

It was MOVED by Councillor Hughes, SECONDED by Councillor Chubb and

RESOLVED

(a)        that the process and timetable for undertaking the WHS Partnership Plan development and consultation be approved;

(b)        that the draft policy framework presented in Appendix I to the Report PTE/19/28 for inclusion in the Consultation Draft of the new Partnership Plan 2020-2025 be endorsed and final agreement of any outstanding detailed issues and content of the document be dealt with by delegated officer decision; and

(c)        that the Committee notes that the final version of the new Partnership Plan will be adopted through delegated cabinet member decision in late 2019/early 2020 following public consultation.
