Local Member Updates

An opportunity for Members to update the Committee on community initiatives and responses to service changes in their own division.

Minutes:

(a) Holsworthy Community Hospital

Councillor Parsons reported on the continuing liaison between the community representatives and the Clinical Commissioning Group. Following the closure of beds at the Hospital, 3 community beds were now situated in a local Residential Home with a focus on end of life care.  This was a good example of effective collaboration between the CCG and the community and as a result the CCG had been nominated for an award at a National NHS Conference.  He also referred to the role of the local Health and Wellbeing Boards (at District Level) and the need to avoid duplication in view of the statutory role of the County Council’s Health and Wellbeing Board.

(b) Youth Services

Councillor Parsons reported that with the increase in numbers of young people involved with youth services, DY Space was moving forward with the purchase of a building for youth services in the Holsworthy.

Councillor Saywell reported on the youth services from the Methodist Hall in Torrington where he had received some funded training and was now a volunteer and the advice available from DY Space which was helpful. He referred to the commissioning of out-reach services for rural areas.

(c) Councillor Saywell reported on community wellbeing event at the Plough, Torrington and the progress of the health services at the wellbeing hub. He also referred to local Network events on 13 March (Umberleigh) and 26 July (Merton) and 1 November (Filleigh Village Hall) with a focus on economic growth working with District Council.

(e) Councillor Hellyer referred to the excellent community outreach work from Bideford Hospital and the limited funding available for Youth outreach services for East of the Water.

(f) The Locality Officer also reported on ‘One Northern Devon’, a collaboration of public, voluntary and community sector organisations working in Northern Devon.
