BACKGROUND AND WHY YOU NEED TO SIGN THIS PETITION
Since the introduction of new car parking regulations, it is
fair to say that the car parking issue in Teignmouth has become
more catastrophic. Visitors, traders and residents are complaining
on a daily basis and this is now effecting large numbers of people
creating a situation which cannot continue.
As Mayor of Teignmouth it is my responsibility to listens to what
people are saying hence this petition. Currently a review of
parking will not commence till March 2018 which realistically means
that by the time results have been collected and the council
produces a report it could be July 2018 by the time any decisions
are made. This is unacceptable to lots of residents who feel their
concerns are not being listened to.
Teignmouth Town Council is ONLY a consultee not the decision makers and as with residents, we are getting very frustrated with the situation.
Whilst on street parking is the responsibility of Devon County Council, off street is the responsibility of the District Council.
This petition is targeted at getting Devon County Council to debate this issue NOW and take action NOW. This process will and should involve Teignbridge District Council. It would be prudent, assuming we obtain 6000 signatures, that both the County and District Councils work together ASAP to both review and resolve this situation NOW.
If an e petition has received 6000 signatures then it will automatically trigger a debate at the next ordinary County Council meeting
This petition can only be signed by residents living in the
administration area of Devon County Council i.e. NOT residents of
Plymouth or Torquay.
